Introduction

Disinformation is nothing new, but the rapid development of information technologies with social networks has created an unprecedented environment in which disinformation and related information operations are recognized as very effective and devastating weapons of mass destruction.

A purpose-driven disinformation campaign in cyberspace is able to scale effectively and influence results of democratic elections at the level of a world superpower, restore long-eradicated fatal diseases in subversive anti-vax information operations and turn man against man for political reasons as we can see in many flash-points all around the world.

New advances in deep-fake AI-driven technology push the manipulation boundaries even further disturbing not only public dialog but also creating new issues e.g. in forensic law etc.

This is a very serious social issue and a paradigm shifting problem for which there is no effective defense yet.
A number of scholars and experts around the world have been already working on particular research and applications in their respective vertical fields of study while other experts have been trying to raise public awareness in critical thinking.

Our objective is to help and support this effort by bridging individual research verticals while promoting cooperation and inspiration among scholars and experts.

The phenomenon of disinformation online is not only about media studies, sociology and psychology which are the most visible aspects now - it affects whole range of other verticals and fields of studies that have to be tackled in a holistic manner to succeed. Let it be platform studies, information studies, AI, law, etc.

We may also observe that great part of current research on the topic of online disinformation is published in grey literature - in a number of vertical master and PhD thesis.

This creates a tremendous potential in know-how and human capital that if linked together and introduced to senior research and expert actors may empower inspiration, unexpected cross-border and interdisciplinary collaboration and lead to significant advancements against bad actors gaming our society in cyberspace.

We believe in holistic approach that is the cornerstone of a working strategy to fight disinformation and information operations in the scalable online world.

Our Mission

Our mission is to create interdisciplinary hub and platform for scholars and experts to share their research paper abstracts including grey literature, cooperation contacts and mutual interest on the subject.

Our service to the scholar and expert community will be based on curated information digest bringing the latest findings of interest to their attention and feedback.

A DEZIMATRIX conference and workshop will be hosted annually to support personal contacts and cooperation.  Its program will be created from the most interesting works aired in our information digest over the year sourced both from peer-reviewed papers as well as from gray-literature.

We are a non-profit organization and we don’t charge for our service.

To push this vision further we need your help – please see the DEZIMATRIX Fellowship program.
